NZVT

Natusport supplements carry the NZVT quality mark, the Dutch Safeguards System for Dietary Supplements in Elite Sports. This system was established in 2003 by the Dutch Doping Authority, in collaboration with NOC*NSF, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), the trade association NPN and Wageningen Food Safety Research.

The NZVT was specifically developed to give elite athletes and their support teams more certainty when using dietary supplements. Research has shown that some supplements may unintentionally contain doping-related substances, even when these are not listed on the label. Such contamination can lead to a positive doping test, with major consequences for an athlete’s career.

To reduce that risk, manufacturers can have their supplements tested per batch. Each batch is a separate production series with a unique batch number, which is also stated on the packaging. These batches are analysed by a specially selected laboratory for more than 160 doping-related substances. Only when the analysis shows that a batch meets the strict NZVT requirements is it included in the NZVT database.

Athletes can consult the NZVT list via the website of the Dutch Doping Authority or the Dopingwaaier app to check which specific batches have been approved. This way, they know exactly which supplements have undergone an additional quality check.

The NZVT quality mark means:

• Safety: minimises the risk of unintentional doping.
• Transparency: each batch is traceable and tested
• Trust: used by elite athletes, recreational athletes and professionals.
